  1. I wanted to write a testimonial for Fitz, with whom I’ve been dancing since January 2023. This looks like a good place to do it, and you can move it to wherever you have others’ testimonials.

A few weeks ago, I told Fitz that, even if he didn’t teach me anything new from that point on, he could still call me one of his best success stories. This one statement summarizes everything that I want to say about my Kadanse experience.

I’ve always loved dance, but have not had a chance to learn. In the last two years, I’ve tried three different dance studios, and I didn’t like any of them, for various reasons. I pretty much gave up the idea of learning to dance. I’m too old anyway, I reasoned with myself, I couldn’t possibly learn proper ballroom dancing at my age. But the desire remained strong as I kept watching on YouTube professional dancers’ elegant, swift, precise and dynamic movements.

Shortly after Christmas last year, I stumbled upon Kadanse webpage; it could’ve been the Facebook page.
I thought, I’ll try this one more time, and I call to make an appointment for an introductory lesson.

As soon as I stepped into Kadanse studio and was greeted with Fitz’s invigorating enthusiasm and cheerful smile, I knew that – if I had even a slimmer of a chance of learning – this was the place. Fitz presented himself extremely professionally, without making me feel uncomfortable or self-conscious. He made the arduous process of learning various dances at a, shall we say, mature age, fun. Over the ensuing months, constantly maintaining his professional demeanor, combined with his seemingly indefinite patience and great sense of humor, he coached my resisting old body to move in ways that it didn’t want to move.

We’ve danced jive and swing; we tried mumbo, and some other dances.

Right from the start, I declared that I did not want to dance rumba because my former experiences with the other studios convinced me that rumba was slow and boring. I also claimed not to like cha-cha.

Since last summer, my attitude to, and my understanding of, both these dance styles have shifted 180 degrees, thanks to Fitz. We’ve been dancing rumba and cha-cha, and I love them both in equal measure. Every Tuesday, I practically fly to the studio to continue this body-breaking process, and I love every minute of it, even though I leave each class with my hips on fire, exhausted, and hungry.

Fitz has seen me frustrated and triumphant; angry at myself and exuberant; he has weathered my seeming relapses, and rejoiced with me over my progress.

I have already told him that I would keep coming back until the day I die or until my body refuses to move, whichever comes first. He ain’t getting rid of me for a long time to come.
